JDC Membership is done purely through selection on the basis of certain pre-determined criteria. Potential members must demonstrate the industry recognized standards of ability, reputation, and work ethic, while being actively involved with innovative jewellery design for a minimum of 1 year. In addition, these candidates for membership must be engaged in marketing/retailing jewellery designs under their own label. All such candidates’ creations must embody a ‘Signature Style’ that is exceptional and distinct. Indian nationals actively involved in this enterprise or international designers of Indian origin that own a business based primarily in India can apply for membership.
These are the basic pre-requisites to qualify, thereby ensuring that our members reflect and represent a broad range of knowledge, competencies, perspectives, experience and expertise. The decision for assigning membership rests with the JDC Membership Committee which entails the industry’s experts and senior representatives like Industry, Corporate, jewellery design professionals, esteemed jewellery institutes and designers.
At the time of applying for membership, every candidate needs to submit a portfolio and/ or other information (through videos, CDs) that comprehensively showcases all their work and is clearly indicative of them being the recognised designer of their “Brand”. In addition, these potential members must have established good standing retail networks and their application must be accompanied with documents showing press coverage, photographs of their workshop, studio, and educational certificates.
As soon as the application is submitted successfully, the JDC Membership Committee places it for review, following which a final decision is made and the applicants are thereafter informed of the outcome of their application.
There is a bi-annual selection of members for the JDC, typically between the months of June-August and November-January. Hence, early submission of all membership applications is recommended. Apart from Designer Membership, JDC also offers membership to Jewellery design entrepreneurs and budding designers.
